G-HARDENING & MINIATURIZATION

Mayflower has a strong track record in system development, integration, and miniaturization. Mayflower products have evolved from a chassis to a single circuit card assembly to custom ASICs, tracing the advances in electronics processing and packaging technology. By proactively staying at the leading edge of technology, Mayflower has been able to focus on low-cost miniaturized electronics applications, such as precision guided munitions.
In support of the US Navy Guidance Integrated Fuze Program, Mayflower has embarked on an exciting miniaturization effort to reduce cost, volume, and power of a P(Y) code SAASM GPS Receiver with full Anti-Jam protection to support the demanding form factor and price point requirements of the program.  The program consists of the development and test of four custom ASICs as follows:

  • SAASM ASIC – the world’s smallest SAASM. Contact David Engel, GPS Business Development Manager at 781-359-9500x242 for more information.
  • Beacon™ – a five channel RF down-converter ASIC for both L1 and L2 GPS frequencies.  The device can support 1, 2, or 4 antennas in addition to a bypass channel.  Each channel is independently powered allowing channels to be powered down if not in use.  The device includes an on board VCO, synthesizer, 4+1 down-converter channel, AGC, and voltage regulation.  The device is packaged in an extremely small 7mm x 7mm QFN package allowing it to fit and even the most space challenged applications.
  • Vanguard™ – an Anti-Jam System on Chip for the C/A, P(Y), and M code GPS signals.  The Vanguard SOC supports various Mayflower developed Anti-Jam algorithms providing 30 dB of protection against multiple wide band jammers and 40 dB of protection against multiple narrow band jammers.  The device is packaged in an 11 mm x 11mm low profile BGA package.  The device provides a direct digital interface to the Mayflower GPS receiver chips (Integrity™ and Magic™ ) or can be followed by an RF up-converter and used as an Anti-Jam module in front of any third party GPS receiver.
  • Magic™ – a high performance C/A Code Receiver Chip with twelve channels as well as integrated Anti-Jam protection.  The device supports a direct digital interface to the Vanguard chip and is packaged in a 10 mm x 10 mm low profile BGA package.  The integrated Anti-Jam technology supports 40 dB of protection against multiple narrow band jammers.
All of the ASICs / SOC are designed to support the shock and balloting loads required for gun launched applications up to 20,000 Gs.   With these devices, the guidance, navigation, and control sub-system of a guided munitions platform can be shrunk to very small volume.  These devices can be used to create gun hard GNC printed circuit boards in almost any form factor to meet the demands of even the most advanced guided projectile programs.
